On Monday, January 19, 2026, the Village of Hempstead proudly hosted its 33rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade in partnership with Hofstra University, bringing together community members, scholars, and leaders in a meaningful celebration of unity and service.

Hempstead Union Free School District is proud to partner with Counslr to provide free, confidential, 24/7 mental health support for students in grades 6–12 and all district staff.
Counslr offers convenient, text-based support with licensed mental health counselors, allowing users to access help anytime—day or night—365 days a year.

We are seeing more students with high fevers, flu‑like symptoms, and vomiting across the Hempstead School District. The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) has also reported increased flu activity across New York State this season. Please reference the NYSDOH Advisory dated December 9, 2025.
This is not a reason to panic, but it is an important time to be extra careful.
